Fable Fortune closes in March.

Adventure
Fable Fortune closes in March.

When Fable's studio, Lionhead, closed its doors in 2016, it seemed for a brief moment that the Fable series was gone for good. However, just a few months later, Fable Fortune, a card game based on the series that was in development at the time of the studio's closure, was announced. After the closure, former Lionhead staff members formed Flaming Fowl Studios to keep it alive, and a year later "Fable Fortune" was launched in Early Access.

But the dream was over. In an update to the game's official website, Mediatonic and Flaming Fowl Studios confirmed that the game's servers will be shut down on March 4. During that time, the in-game store will be unavailable.

"More than two years, six heroes and 30 seasons of adventure have come to an end.

Fable Fortune ended Early Access on February 22, moving to a free-to-play model. However, despite the Fable name (which was licensed from Microsoft), the game seemed to fade into obscurity almost immediately.

When Lionhead Studios closed, another Fable game in development, Fable Legends, was cancelled altogether, despite being the most heavily marketed. However, rumors that Playground Games (of Forza fame) will develop Fable 4 in an open-world RPG format in 2020 have raised the possibility of a revival of the series.
