Adventure game "Norco" is a pixel art lover's dream

Kentucky Route Zero has finally been released in its entirety, and another long-awaited adventure in the collapse of America has caught my eye: Norco: a pixel-art point-and-click mystery of Louisiana swamps, suburbs, and oil refineries, complete with robots.

According to the Steam page, while searching for his missing brother, he "rides into the refinery with his robot friends," "joins the wild-eyed River Dog" and "sneaks around downtown New Orleans on a desolate weekday night."

Norco's demo is what Norco's demo has been available on itch.io for years, and the first act will finally be released this year.

The developers, Geography of Robots (consisting of pixel artist Yutsi and composer Gewgawly I), frequently post art on Twitter, where they noticed the game's progress. Whatever point-and-click eventually becomes, the art should carry Norco far. A limited palette seems to be popping off the screen and radiating from the dithering skies.

We've included some stills below, and you can see more on Steam and Norco's official website. No release date has been set, but it is expected this spring or summer.

If the robot below is in need of a "semiotic weapon," there's sure to be a whiff or two of cultural theory wafting from the burning chimneys of Louisiana.
