At the same time, 10 existing minions will be rotated out to make room for the new scale rulers. A more detailed list of which minions will be leaving can be found further down this page, but some will be sad to say goodbye to Boogeymonster.
Since dragons are the first new minion type to appear in Hearthstone Battlegrounds, expect many players to attempt to "force" comps with them, at least for the first few days. Hearthstone representative Tim Clark had the opportunity to try out the update at the recent Hearthstone 2020 Summit.
To celebrate the addition of dragons to Battlegrounds and the sixth anniversary of Hearthstone in March, Blizzard is giving away free card packs by logging in and watching the Twitch stream. But before we talk about that, here's what's new. Take a look at the new Battlegrounds heroes and their dazzling dragon powers:
Tim's favorite of the new heroes is Deathwing. Note that his power applies +3 attack to both his own minions and those of his opponents. Thus, to take full advantage of this power, you want to generate as many tokens as possible and take advantage of the additional damage more often.
Speaking of minions, let us introduce some new dragons: the cost of the Boon Hero Power of Light of Corrupted George has been reduced from 4 to 3, Sneed's Old Shredder has been moved from Tier 6 to Tier 5, Mama Bear is once again a 5/5 beast (whenever you summon a beast gives +5/+5 - previously it was 4/4 and +4/+4), and the starting cost for Tavern Tier 6 was reduced from 11 gold to 10 gold.
"Tavern Tier 6 is full of exciting minions and we want players to have more opportunities to reach them than ever before," Blizzard explains.
"We're also trying to make Tavern Tier 6 more interesting by adding these powerful new minions.
And while new heroes and minions join the fray, other heroes, including the hero Professor Putricide, will be taking a break. Blizzard said, "We want to go back to the drawing board on Professor Putricide. Blizzard said." We are going to disable him for now to make way for a new hero, but you can probably see him in the future with some changes.
Ten minions will also be moved to make way for the new minions, giving Blizzard a chance to balance the minions. Other minions will also be removed because they did not perform very well or were not very fun to play with. The list of minions being moved is as follows:
Other changes in the 16.4 update:
Now, as promised, a free item: to celebrate the release of Hearthstone Battlegrounds' first new minion, Blizzard is holding Twitch Drops: from 11am PT/2pm ET on February 26th to 5pm PT/8pm ET on February 29th, watch any Hearthstone stream on Twitch for 3 hours and you'll get a pack of Hearthstone Descent of Dragons cards, watch for another 3 hours and you'll get another pack. you will receive another pack. Watching time is cumulative, not continuous, so as long as you watch for the required amount of time, you can watch as many times as you want as long as your Twitch and Battle.net accounts are linked.
And that's not all: to celebrate Hearthstone's 6th anniversary, Blizzard is hosting a limited-time event starting March 4: log into Hearthstone between March 4 at 10 a.m. PT and March 17 at 1 p.m. ET to receive two Rise of Shadows, Saviors of Uldum, or Descent of Dragons packs and one Year of the Dragon card. Details on the Twitch drop (and everything else) can be found at playhearthstone.com.
