Modern Warfare's New "Tomogunchi" is a Cute Digital Pet that Feeds on Death

The latest gadget to appear in "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" is not a gun, a bomb, or a fancy electronic device that allows you to see bad guys through walls. The Tamagotchi is one of those little digital pets that you put on your wrist, play with for a few minutes, and forget about until you starve.

Since "Tamagotchi" is a trademarked term, we refer to it here as "Tomogunchi."

"Utilizing the latest advances in pixel-based monochromatic LCD display technology, your Tomogunchi "home" is a durable watch, machined from the finest non-biodegradable plastic and designed to deliver the most immersive pet-based combat-related experience ever " said Activision." Are you predisposed to keep your tomognch alive? Will your new friendly critter feed and thrive well? Or will it carelessly panic and eventually die?" It's all up to you.

To be clear, Tomogunchi is not a real product (nor is Rothwynn a real company), but a real interactive cosmetic product that can be purchased through the in-game store. In fact, it was released last summer, but is only available today.

What it does is basically a Tamagotchi adapted for Call of Duty. Just like the real thing, you need to keep the hatched Tamagotchis alive and happy, but instead of pressing buttons to feed them, you need to satisfy their hunger with kills, objectives, kill streaks, and wins. The opposite can also happen: poor grades can make Tomokunchi sad or dead.

The blog post strongly hints that various forms of Tomogunchi pets are available and that they contain secrets to be unearthed, but those interested should investigate for themselves. Tomogunchi can be purchased for 1000 MW points, or $10 in real money.
