Over the next hour or so, the Season of the Worthy will begin with a new existential threat to the Last City, new co-op play, and the return of the top-level PvP challenge, "The Trials of Osiris."

A massive gunship is hurtling toward the last bastion of Earthlings, and the Guardians must convince Rasputin, a grumpy AI warmonger, to shoot it to smithereens. Rasputin demands tribute, and with the help of his friends, he must clean out the secret bunkers that have suddenly appeared in the EDZ and supply Rasputin's tower with food.

The launch trailer offers a look at the new warmind bunker, snippets of cutscenes, and most importantly, exotics. The "Raiju's Harness," a Tron-like hunter vest (no relation to Pikachu). There is also a futuristic tommy gun.

Bungie has learned important lessons throughout this year's season structure, and this one may be the best yet. The permanent addition of trials is a big deal for PvP enthusiasts looking for a real challenge. The weapon balancing seems to favor short-range archetypes that don't see much action, such as submachine guns and sidearms. Sniper rifles may be better off in the vaults for now.
