Mortal Kombat 4 has been dug out of the archives, dusted off, and is now available on GOG. While not the most thoughtful of Mortal Kombat games, it contains a number of firsts in the series that have carried over into the modern game.

After three 2D fighters, Midway decided to take "Mortal Kombat 4" into 3D, throwing the series' first weapon into the mix and allowing you to grab things from the background. not a million miles from "Mortal Kombat 11," the elaborate character customization is not expected.

Unfortunately, it hasn't aged as well as its predecessor, and every combatant looks like an origami experiment, but I still have great admiration for the angular 3D games of the 90s. Who doesn't like those creepy faces?

Speaking of outdated, "Mortal Kombat" is also getting an animated adaptation; unlike the 90s version, "Mortal Kombat Legends: Revenge of the Scorpion" is an R-rated bloodbath that can be seen digitally on April 12.
