Valve unveils new Artifact card with MS Paint-style placeholder art.

While the 2018 release of Artifact was a complete bomb, Valve is moving forward in its attempt to revive the failed card game. Today, Valve released an update explaining what new players can expect and how the restarted game will take care of "founding players" whose collections will no longer be available. But the real reason we're here is the half-dozen update cards Valve released today, or more accurately, the placeholder art that looks like it was painted in MS Paint during someone's break.

In the update, Valve said that they are now purely focused on reworking Artifact's gameplay, warning that "we're going to change a lot of things during this process based on feedback and data, so it's not going to look polished." And, oh my, it's not a joke: Take a look at "this lovely placeholder art," as Valve describes it.

As far as I can tell, some of these are straight-up gags - Mirana and Wraith King are at least legitimate artifact cards - but Defenstrating Ogre? Really? April Fool's Day was last week, right?

I don't think it's weirder than this guy.

Moving away from the eye-catching art, Valve said in the update that it is working on an idea for "something incredibly cool and special" for the Artifact founder, but is not ready to move forward with it yet. He also called on players to send feedback letters to [email protected], promising that "we're going to read them all. "While there is no word on when Artifact will make its grand reappearance, Valve has made it clear ( except for the placeholder art) is serious about making it happen.
