Creepy, low-poly 3D games are the new frontier of the indie aesthetic, and the latest proof is the Haunted PS1 Wretched Weekend. The 48-hour game jam, held last weekend, had just eight rules:

The completed submissions, now playable, numbered 69. Included among them is "Rottenwood Lake," which, oddly enough, is not the first fishing game/horror combination I've played. After catching an ugly fish in the fog, you are sent off to locate three skulls in a spooky lake while being chased by a deep-sea beast. Fortunately, the skulls can be tracked because they emit a noise like the throat song of a Tuvan. It's a rare thing.

I also enjoyed my time exploring A Structure of Unknown Origin at Little Pine State Park, Quiet Manor, and P.A.R.I.S. La nuit en marche. Well, they were all very unusual.

You can try out the Wretched Weekend games at itch.io. Don't forget the Haunted PS1 Demo Disc if you want more of the same.
