I'm no expert on medieval warfare, but having seen Army of Darkness and played a few PC games, I'm convinced that a shotgun can kick the average medieval soldier's ass. This Bannerlord mod, "MB2Shotgun," delivers most of the attractive power of the boomstick without being obviously anachronistic. The result of the massacre.

This mod is not that impressive looking by default. It shoots enemies with tremendous force, but it doesn't have the satisfying bullet spread of a real shotgun. However, when combined with the Fire Arrow from the Firelord mod, things start to heat up.

Note that the mod is disabled by default when installed, if you want to turn your bow into a shotgun. It's easy to do: just open the Bannerlord folder, go to /MB2Shotgun/settings/CheatLogicSettings.xml and set "ShotgunFeature" to "true". One more thing, according to modder yhyu13, you may need to change the "ShotgunBounusDamage" value depending on the type of arrow you are using.

Yhyu13 is still actively working on the mod and expanded it to also support throwing knives in today's update. Perhaps this will be extended to actual full-fledged shotguns in the future.
