Destiny 2's quest "The Lie" is finally fixed.

Update: On May 21, The Lie quest was finally fixed, as promised. The patch notes say nothing more than what has been fixed or that it now works. And what is really important?

Original story:

Perhaps the name should give you a clue, but it's been a rough road for players undertaking "The Lie," the quest line that concludes this season of Destiny 2. For those who haven't been following along, here's a recap: "The Lie" eventually leads to "Felwinter's Lie," which is a shotgun recreation of the original story, with perks that have an OP effect in PvP that makes you want to cover your eyes Available.

Unfortunately, Bungie greatly overestimated player enthusiasm for the first step of this quest, which required completing the heroic Seraph Tower public event 9 million times. Considering that these are actually painstaking to finish with random teammates (the events occur in public instances, so it is up to luck to match up with a competent person), it quickly became apparent that it would take over a month to finish the quest, and Season of the Worthy had passed its end.

Bungie quickly moved to rework the quest, making the Seraph Tower easier to defeat and giving more progress to complete. The community met their goal late last night and began the next steps, which included a visit to Vostok and some light lore. Then, for Rasputin's reasons, a whopping 1,000 shotgun kills were required, and it was back to the grind.

(Rasputin is a powerful AI "warmind" that shoots incoming alien ships off their crash trajectory and prevents the last city on earth from disappearing.)

You can rack up kills in PvP, with each human destroyed by your opponent counting as 6 kills. If you want to take it easy and shoot aliens, the Shuro Chi section of the Last Wish raid (where you can teleport with your wish) or the 'green room' of the Whisper mission are perfect.

Then, based on data mining, we expected story missions to reward shotguns. Instead, however, the player was literally locked out. In the step in question, they are asked to talk to Rasputin via his bunker on the moon. And sure enough, when you try to visit, there is a "tyrant" step start marker on the door. But when I click on it, I am transported by Ellis Mohn to a spawn point on the moon. The quest seems to be valid, but the marker and information are gone.

The tricky name of the quest line led some players to speculate that this was some sort of opaque scavenger hunt. Apparently not; Bungie community manager Dylan 'dmg04' Gafner admitted that The Lie is indeed a bug.

Given that I have not seen a single YouTube upload of a gunman, I think it is safe to say that we are all affected. A hotfix will be distributed tomorrow, but that's for unrelated maintenance. Optimistically, I suppose there is a chance that the weekly Tuesday reset will magically fix things, but in any case, players will have to wait a little longer to get their boomsticks.

As expected, some on the Destiny subreddit are blaming the buggy nature of this season, but it should be noted that this is a complex game that is being built in captivity for the sake of balance. Nevertheless, The Lie's mess following Guardian Games will only make this season's mess worse.

However, looking at it another way, at least we can enjoy the precious remaining time in the Crucible until everyone owns a Godroll one-hit-kill weapon. Because it definitely won't cause any problems down the road.
