Nightdive Studios is rescuing early 3D games one by one from uncharted territory. Earlier this year, we learned that Acclaim's 1999 action game "Shadow Man" is being fully remastered with Nightdive's internal Kex Engine. Now, a new trailer released at the PC Gaming Show reveals the full story.
Shadow Man seems to be primarily a game about blowing up monsters with the power of voodoo and carrying a torch through a very dank environment, but readers of the original comics may know there's a lot more going on. While "Shadow Man" won't win any awards for beauty, it is clearly crisp in the engine of Night Dive. The remastered version supports up to 4K resolution, with significant updates to the graphics regarding light and shadow, as well as the addition of anti-aliasing and ambient occlusion.
The Nightdive update has some other interesting bullet points:
Twenty years after the game was created, it is exciting to see how the remaster can dig up and restore abandoned parts of the game, to the AI and controls Even small adjustments can make a huge difference in making an old game feel playable today.
No release date has been set for Shadow Man, but earlier this year Nightdive said it would be available in early 2021. Here is a pile of screenshots.
