Captain America Comes to Fortnite

Captain America has descended upon Fortnite as a superhero as part of the July 4th celebration. This new skin also comes with a classic back bling bling and a new type of harvesting tool that is quite different from anything we've seen in Fortnite before.

Take a look in the trailer below.

Currently, there is only one style of Captain America skin: a version of Cap wearing a full helmet and a half mask. In other words, if you're a fan of the helmetless, sand-blonde-haired Steve Rogers, you're out of luck unless Epic adds a new style in the future.

That said, while I don't think Epic has achieved true "American ass" status, it is a great skin with lots of admirable details.

Captain America is available in the item store for 2,000 V-bucks, or roughly US$18-20.

However, Cap's proto-adamantium shield is also available as a back decoration and as a harvesting tool. The item store description does not clarify whether the shield can be used for both at once (or whether the cap can be removed and put back on), so unfortunately I won't know what happens until I buy it. But I love the idea of wielding something other than a pickaxe or dual axes as a harvesting tool. Thankfully, the shield is included in the 2,000 V-buck price.

There's also a new "Grand Salute" emote in honor of the 4th of July that will send your character triumphantly before a shower of fireworks. Frankly, it may be the only fireworks this year.

Also worth noting is that the trailer features Captain America using the Bifrost, a magical teleportation bridge from the world of Thor. With DC's "Aquaman" already in place as a unique tie-in skin for this season, does this mean more Marvel heroes, or dare I say it, a cross-franchise crossover? I don't think so, but, well, we're talking about Fortnite here. Anything is possible.
