Citing "overwhelming demand," the development team for the upcoming action-RPG "Mortal Shell" has decided to make the previously closed beta an open beta. The beta is now freely available on the Epic Games store. Previously available only to a select few, the beta includes "Fallgrim Suburbia and Abandoned Rooms."
Mortal Shell is a clearly Dark Souls-inspired action RPG that garnered attention earlier this year for its very stunning visual design. The gameplay trailer that followed was quite fascinating and thus captured our attention. The game itself focuses on dark fantasy horrors of all kinds, talking about sanity-blowing terror and resilience in the face of a broken world." Your path is guarded by enemies dedicated to inexplicable gods." The game's description says." Behold the pathetic and grotesque creatures, and muster your courage to face them." Honestly, it feels like opening up social media.
James Davenport of our site played the game a few days ago and had this to say. Mortal Shell is a concentrated version of Dark Souls, a more dense and challenging reimagining of what Souls was like. It is so much more. Too much.
Thrilling! James' full gameplay can be seen above, and you can read his impressions here.
