'Dark Souls 3's' Ridiculous Gun Mods Get Even Better with 'Resident Evil 4'-Style Sights

Earlier this week I wrote about the Modern Firearm mod for Dark Souls 3 that adds Resident Evil-inspired guns to the game, and if you've ever wanted to roll around a decaying fantasy world with an AK-47, PC games can make that dream come true. It was a cool mod to begin with, but in the days since the mod got a lot of attention, other mod makers have stepped in to make Dark Souls 3 look and play more like a shooter. The result is a game that looks like a forgotten Resident Evil between RE4 and RE6.

Modder and cut content specialist Zullie the Witch first tried an FPS mod, but found it too difficult to tell when she was stuck in an animation that couldn't roll out Zullie decided that an over-the-shoulder perspective was more suitable for shooting Zullie reasoned that the over-the-shoulder view was better suited for filming.

So they created something extraordinary.

The third-person camera mod is part of Zullie's Challenge Mods pack, which also includes a first-person camera mod. If you prefer to look over your right shoulder instead of your left, an option is included, but you have to turn it off or you won't be able to see your character in the UI.

The key here is the infinite ammo toggle, a necessity if you play "Dark Souls 3" with guns only. Otherwise, you will have to buy "arrows" to level up, and you will have no souls left.

I tried this early in the game and was able to take down Gandhir from an over-the-shoulder perspective like in Sony's "God of War" reboot. The camera mod works even when not spitting hot lead.

After taking on the High Wall in Lothric, I found my first crossbow (now a Vector SBR semi-auto rifle) and went back to Firelink to try it out. The sight sensitivity is very high by default and probably needs to be tweaked. I was swinging this rifle all over the place and missing enemies right in front of me. But overall, cool change. The perspective makes lock-on combat super disorienting, forcing you to use the stick for accuracy.

Dark Souls 3 is designed for melee combat, so enemies tend to rush at you like in RE4. In other words, the enemies do not slow down or react to a perfect knee kick, but the general action unfolds in the same way. The illusion is completed when the Leon Kennedy character mod is included.

The restricted viewpoint forced me to keep moving when I could afford to expend stamina, track enemies from all directions, and slow down to reduce my strength. With a little more work by the professionals, this could be a legitimate way to play through the entire game.

One last note before I cut to the chase: installing Dark Souls 3's mod engine first will cut off your connection to the network to avoid a possible ban. mods are banned for online play, especially those needed for camera hacks. Cheat engines are banned.

Zullie's Challenge Mods pack is a must for anyone looking to refresh Dark Souls 3. It's full of radical options, including a top-down camera, speed modifiers, NPC status modifiers, and Barrel Souls, a game mode where enemies disguise themselves as random objects with a chameleon spell. A nice box for dumb fans.
