Hyperscape is in open beta! Watch the new trailer here.

Ubisoft's new free-to-play battle royale Hyper Scape is now available for immediate play on PC. Announced about a week ago, Hyper Scape was noted for its urban setting and its maps and game rules that change as you play. effects, which drew a lot of attention. Today, Ubisoft Forward previewed the trailer and open beta announcement. The trailer includes a variety of elements, but the emphasis is definitely on run-and-gun combat.

The trailer shows players dynamically acquiring new abilities called "hacks" and using them to gain an edge in combat. There is also a lot of vertical movement as players bounce from the ground to the roof and back again in a matter of seconds. Hyperscape is a streamlined version of the genre, with stamina regenerating automatically, and gun upgrades can be done by simply getting another copy of a gun you already own.

Ubisoft has also released a cinematic trailer about the game's world, in which hyperscape's virtual reality is used as an escape from the harsh realities of everyday life. But that virtual life hides a dark secret. How that differs from the world we live in today, I don't know, but whatever.

Morgan Park thought that hyperscape might be too simple to remain interesting. Emma Matthews, on the other hand, found that once you get used to the pace of the game, its streamlined design focuses on the good qualities of battle royale. As she noted in her preview, "Ubisoft has found a way to cut out the busy interactions between allies and focus on the one thing that actually matters: finding and eliminating the other team."

You can join the open beta and download the game at the official website. Previous articles about Hyperscape can be read here.

Ubisoft has recently been embroiled in a storm of controversy over allegations of an abusive and hostile workplace. While Ubisoft did not directly address these allegations during today's livestream, an executive at Ubisoft Canada and the company's chief creative have resigned in recent days.
