New trailer for "Remnant: From the Ashes" final DLC, released next month.

Co-op shooter Remnant: From the Ashes will release its final DLC next month: titled Subject 2923, the expansion will feature a new campaign story that traces the origins of Remnant's strange world, plus two In addition to a new campaign storyline that traces the origins of the strange world of Remnant, it introduces two major new biomes for players to explore.

"Subject 2923" takes place after the events of the main game and focuses on a place called Ward Prime, which can be seen in the new trailer above. Ward Prime is a military research facility that was the predecessor to the starting point of Ward 13, where the Human Dreamer Project was originally established to connect Earth to the rest of the world through powerful beings called Guardians.

"It's a little different in tempo than our previous work," says Remnant Design Director John Pearl. 'There were a lot of oddities. You're exploring a huge complex. There are puzzles. For those who like to read lore, there is a lot of lore. There are lots of interesting discoveries and lots of backstory."

Alongside the 13th district itself, players will explore more rural areas of Remnant's post-apocalyptic Earth (a change from the original urban areas only). In addition, an entirely new world, the icebound Kingdom of Rhythm, will be introduced. A concept drawn up early in the development of "The Remnant" was that human-type creatures would grow to giant size and human-sized rats would appear.

Subject 2923 is Remnant's largest expansion, adding 4-6 hours depending on the player's skills and tendencies, as well as new weapons, upgrades, armor sets, and trinkets. The new areas will also maintain Remnant's random elements, so you will need to play the DLC multiple times to see everything.

When I reviewed Remnant last year, I was greatly surprised by Remnant. A game inspired by "Dark Souls" means that you have to climb a steep mountain. However, Remnant's emphasis on gunfights, coupled with its very imaginative environmental design, sets it apart from the rest. The combat is interesting and the bosses are genuinely challenging. But Remnant's greatest feature has always been its strange, interconnected world, from the ancient sand-covered kingdom of Loam to the idyllic forest world of Yaisha.

I am optimistic about expanding that world, as it is absolutely what I want for the final DLC. Gunfire has also learned a lot from the experience of developing "Remnant" and will be making some important tweaks and changes for the DLC. You can read the full interview with John Pearl about it here.

Subject 2923 will be released on August 20 and will cost $10. At the same time, Remnant: From the Ashes Complete Edition will be available for $50 and will include the base game, Swamps of Corsus DLC, and Subject 2923.
