Update: A little early, but Riot has officially announced Valorant's next agent: Killjoy. We already knew about her abilities from leaked information, but you can see her in action in the trailer.
Killjoy is characterized as a German genius with a robot companion and a love of invention. She can throw nanoswarm grenades, send explosive alarm bots after enemies, take down turrets, and trap players with lockdown devices.
Killjoy is coming on August 4, so it won't be long before she can piss people off with her inventions: thanks to someone at Riot tripping and pressing the big red button, we got our first official look at Valorant's next agent, Killjoy with her turret. An introductory page, written from Killjoy's point of view, was temporarily published on Riot's website, with a detailed description of their abilities.
The article also included an embedded Youtube video, presumably of their abilities in action, which I was able to watch for a moment before the page went down. Thankfully, Vallorant's data miner, floxay, has re-posted the videos on Twitter showcasing each capability.
In order of appearance, here are all the abilities and their descriptions on the now-deleted Killjoy intro page:
These abilities are very different from previous Valorants, as Riot continues to diverge from CS:GO's modest toolkit, TF2-style It will be interesting to see if auto-turrets will increase the opportunity to get kills with abilities instead of traditional gunplay. Assuming the example video uses a standard amount of health, the turret does not appear to be doing much damage. However, it is easy to imagine it serving as a proximity alarm that can also weaken the enemy in the next fight.
The other outliers here are Alarmbot and Lockdown Ultimate; I like the idea of Alarmbot as a trap that can kill you, but only if timed with someone peeking in and doing double damage. Its fairness depends on how long the double damage effect lasts and how easily you can spot Alarmbot before it jumps on you.
Lockdown is a fascinating scenario that puts the enemy at a significant disadvantage and forces them into a killjoy. Enemies affected by lockdowns move much slower, but I'm curious to see if there is a breach-like effect on hit rate and rate of fire; Nanoswarm seems to basically work like a remote detonation Molotov cocktail. While not as flashy as a turret, it could be powerful against coordinated pushes that break through bottlenecks such as Haven's Long A. If shielded as well as Cipher's cyber cage, Killjoy's very destructive capabilities will come into play.
Killjoy will probably drop when Act 2 of Valorant begins; Riot has not given an exact date, but next week seems likely, as Battle Pass ends on August 4.
