Fortnite 13.40 Update: Car Stops, Radio Station Goes Live

Fortnite's Joyride update 13.40 is finally here, and while Epic hasn't posted official patch notes, we have all the details we need, including the long-awaited addition of drivable cars and bug fixes.

Yes, you can now drive cars in Fortnite. This may sound painfully mundane for a battle royale game, but remember that there was once a time when "Fortnite" was known as the only kid's big game with no vehicles at all. In the early seasons, it was entirely on foot, and Epic has returned to that motif, with the exception of a very limited number of boats, for the start of Fortnite's second chapter.

See our roundup for what you need to know about cars in Fortnite. It covers which cars can and cannot be driven, where to find cars, driving tips, etc.

Epic has also added two new skins to celebrate the cars' arrival: a dummy and a sand shark driver.

As part of the Joy Ride update, Fortnite also added a radio station that can be tuned in while driving the car. At the time of this writing, the radio is temporarily disabled to address a bug, but it appears to play a mix of in-game music similar to that found in Party Royale.

Nevertheless, it seems to be another platform for Epic to feature music artists in future marketing tie-ins; some Fortnite content creators have received a note from Epic warning them to "be careful with music while driving" to "be careful with music while driving.

As always, Epic has added bug fixes as part of the 13.40 update. These address a number of issues in Fortnite's Battle Royale and Creative modes.

Battle Royale

- Fixed an issue where the XP bar was visually incorrect and displayed incorrect information. - Fixed an issue where bottomless chugs could not be picked up during recharge if they were dropped by another player. - Fixed an issue where the challenge was showing "damage within 10 seconds after landing from the Hydro 16 whirlpool" when it should say "on the yacht." - Fixed an issue where the "Land on Frenzy Farm/The Yacht and finish in the top 25" challenge was not working for duos and squads.

Creative Mode

- Fixed an issue with broken signage on islands using the Roboto font that was removed in a previous update. - Fixed issue with multiple selected items in grid snap not rotating correctly.

That's it for this week's update. In case you missed them, be sure to check out our other Fortnite guides and patch notes.
