'Guild Wars 2' skimmer mount goes underwater

The 8th anniversary of fantasy MMO Guild Wars 2 is coming up later this month, and to celebrate, ArenaNet is making a big change to its skimmer count: the manta-ray-like skimmer, introduced in the 2017 Path of Fire expansion, usually glides a few feet above the water - hence the name It is.

This is a big deal for several reasons. There is currently no mount in "Guild Wars 2" that can move underwater. This is also the first time ArenaNet has added such a feature to an existing mount. These two points are quite remarkable for an eight-year-old MMO, but according to the studio, players have been asking for this since the Path of Fire expansion went live three years ago.

(And really, it only makes sense. Look, of course it's supposed to go underwater!)

The Submersible Skimmer will be available to owners of "Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire" starting August 25 by unlocking and training the new "Skimming the Abyss" mastery. Prior to that, a one-week world-to-world bonus event will take place starting August 14, offering a 25 percent bonus to reward track progress, a double bonus to experience, and a 50 percent bonus to magic discovery.
