Nvidia Confirms RTX 30 Series Design In Nvidia's latest video titled "The Remarkable Art & Science of Graphics Card Design," which hints at much of what has been discovered in multiple leaks over the past several months, the Nvidia Ampere graphics card is given its first

The video shows for the first time a glimpse of the Nvidia Ampere graphics card.

In the video embedded above, Nvidia engineers explain the steps involved in designing an effective cooling solution for a graphics card, as well as a supporting article on the Nvidia blog. It also focuses on what it takes to improve past designs, such as the RTX 20 series Founders Editions, with the latest Ampere generation graphics cards.

"To achieve this perfect airflow, we have to remove previous limitations," explains David Haley, Nvidia's thermal architect. We have to change the PCB. We have to move the fans. You have to change the software stack that controls the fans.

"We take a holistic approach because GPU manufacturing is not all about thermal solutions. We consider thermal, mechanical, and electrical design, and tie it all together with industrial design to maximize the GPU's potential while keeping the system cool and quiet." And in a final moment, we get a glimpse of the Nvidia Ampere GPU design.

This fleeting glimpse matches previously leaked images of the RTX 30 Series Founders Edition. While some changes may be seen between what was previously leaked from the depths of the web and the final product that will ship, the dual omni-directional fans (not directly pictured), the large heatsink, and the cut-out PCB all appear to be the final look.

AIB is not expected to follow third-party GPU designs.

Nvidia cites several key aspects of the FE Ampere cooler that have been upgraded over the previous model, promising that these are not just for show. These include a leaf spring mechanical brace and a new 12-pin power connector (an adapter will be included). Both are intended to reduce size, improve cooling capacity and airflow, and shift the design away from critical components to maintain operating efficiency.

We will hear more about the Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 series at the GeForce Special Event on September 1, 2020 at 9:00 am PST (5:00 pm PST).
