"Second Extinction" is a co-op shooter in which humans struggle to take back the Earth from the dinosaurs. If that sounds intriguing but a bit confusing, developer Systemic Reaction is here to help with a 15-minute gameplay trailer that demonstrates the "investigation and rescue" mission from start to finish.
Of course, the reality of investigation and rescue in a videogame context centers on shooting and explosions, but there are plenty of other things to do while the bullets are flying, such as scanning sectors, requesting resources, reviving allies, and repairing broken items. It seems to me that a "shoot now, ask questions later" approach would probably get the job done, but it would be tough to track.
Along with the trailer, Systemic Reaction has also posted a roadmap showing their development plans during the Early Access period. It is vague, but says that new enemy mutations (all dinosaurs are mutants, which is probably part of the reason they are so difficult to deal with), mission difficulty settings, new "appearance events," weapons, equipment, Horde mode, etc. will be added.
The Steam page doesn't say how long the developers expect Second Extinction to remain in Early Access, only that "it depends on your feedback," but that process will begin on October 13. If your curiosity still hasn't been satisfied, you can find out more about the game at secondextinctiongame.com.
