Wrench from "Watch Dogs 2" will be a playable character in the "Watch Dogs Legion" season pass.

"Watch Dogs Legion" is set to launch on October 29, and today Ubisoft gave us a further glimpse into its future by revealing details of a free multiplayer mode that will be available on December 3 and a paid season pass for "Watch Dogs Legion. (Before digging into the trailer, I played a few hours of "Watch Dogs Legion" last week. You can read my report on hypnotizing people into joining me in "Watch Dogs Legion," inadvertently driving into people and making lifelong enemies, climbing Big Ben with Spiderbot, and much more here)

Last month, the grumpy hero of the original "Watch Dogs, Aiden Pearce, would appear in Watch Dogs Legion as a playable character with a new storyline. However, Pearce is only one of four characters that will appear in a post-launch season pass (called Watch Dogs Legion): the other three characters are also known.

Perhaps the most notable new character is Wrench, the masked, foul-mouthed hacker from Watch Dogs 2. Bloodline will introduce "new gameplay abilities," but it is not yet known what talents Wrench will have. (Wrench was also playable in the final mission of Watch Dogs 2, armed with a sniper rifle, shotgun, stun grenade launcher, 3D printed assault rifle, and sticky bombs.)

The third character in the season pass is Mina, a "transhuman experiment subject with the ability to mind-control individuals," potentially giving players new ways to infiltrate safe areas (and possibly fun ways to confuse people).

The final new character is Darcy, a member of the Assassin Brotherhood. Yes, Watch Dogs will crossover with Assassin's Creed. No word on what specific abilities Darcy will have or if there will be a convenient haystack in London for her to jump into. A season pass will be available in December, but pricing has not yet been announced.

It's nice to see Wrench again, and the assassin and mind controller Mina both look interesting, but where is Marcus Holloway, the charming star of Watch Dogs 2?

I asked Lathieeshe Thillainathan, the live producer of Watch Dogs: Legion, if Holloway might make an appearance. 'All I can tell you is that details are coming. 'We are still holding off on any Easter eggs or surprises. I won't deny or confirm. Stay tuned.'

Free updates are also planned, the first of which will bring three multiplayer modes to Legion on December 3. There will be an online open-world mode that allows for cooperative play with up to four players. (It is a separate world from the single-player mode, so you cannot play the single-player campaign with the help of a co-op friend.) In the co-op world, you can take on new multiplayer quests with friends, tackle more complex "tactical missions," and You can do so. There will also be a PvP mode called Spiderbot Arena, where up to eight players will battle it out while controlling heavily armed Spiderbot drones.

The best news (as far as I can tell) is the return of Invasion Mode. This is where one player disguises himself as a random NPC and quietly sneaks into another player's single-player game, attempting to hack into that player's data before the infiltrated player discovers him. Invasion was, quite frankly, the best part of the original Watch Dogs and one of the most fun multiplayer modes in the game's history."
