Razer Announces First Gaming Chair, Razer Iskur

The Razer community never stops; the Razer community was the key proponent that got Razer into the kitchen utility game with the Razer toaster, and now it looks like their constant badgering of gaming chairs has paid off. That's right, Razer unveiled its first gaming chair, the Razer Iskur, at the inaugural Razercon.

From the back, the Razer chair looks like a regular gaming chair. For better or worse, it has the aesthetics of a racing seat, and it is an ordinary chair in green and black. Where Iskur differs a bit from the rest, however, is in how it supports the back.

Ergonomics starts with lumbar support. No matter what chair you choose, sitting for long periods of time is not a good thing, but a decent chair that provides effective lumbar support can help reduce some of the strain on your vertebrae in between desk work and breaks.

Razer's Iskur approach incorporates a curved back support in the lower back of the chair to achieve a neutral position for the spine and avoid hunching.

Iskur also comes with 4D armrests with a wide range of adjustment to support players up to 6.2 feet and 136 kg (299 lbs.). It is made of multi-layered synthetic leather with a high-density foam back cushion. A shape memory foam head cushion is also included, which Razer claims allows for optimal eye contact for gaming at a desk.

Razer's approach to the Iskur is certainly new to us, and we're eager to try it out to compare it to the adjustable lumbar support we see today. The chair is currently available on Razer.com for $499 (€500) and will be available at select other retailers later this year.

If you plan on using a gaming chair all day, you'll want the best gaming chair available. There are plenty of office chairs that can take the place of a gaming chair, and whether or not you're a fan of Razer gear, don't neglect your back. Check out our ergonomic how-to to help you play in the healthiest way possible.
