1980's America Goes to War with an Otherworldly America in Zachtronics' New Game

Indie studio Zachtronics has so far released three puzzle games, "Infinifactory," "Opus Magum," and "Exapunks," and a graphic novel about AI therapy called "Eliza," but for their next project The next project is going to be a little different. Mobius Front '83" is a turn-based strategy game set during the height of the Cold War, in which players try to defend the United States against attacks from an alternate America from another world.

You thought it was the Soviet Union.

Mobius Front '83 features turn-based battles between powerful tanks, fast-moving helicopters, heavy artillery, and other cutting-edge military equipment from the early 1980s. The single-player campaign is estimated to last 15-40 hours "depending on how many side activities you participate in" of the game, and uses fully voiced cut scenes to tell the story of who the other America is and why it is waging war on ordinary America.

As for these "side activities," Mobius Front '83 does not completely abandon its tradition: the game also features a "Zachtronics-style puzzle mini-game and, as always, a fresh take on solitaire."

"This is what happens when you start reading old U.S. Army manuals," says Zach Barth, founder of Zachtronics.

Mobius Front '83 will debut on Steam on November 5. For more information, visit zachtronics.com.
