Destiny 2 Director Finally Gives Fashion Fans the News They Needed

Calm down, fashion geeks. It's okay, we've known for some time that Destiny 2 would be introducing a new transmog system sometime in Year 4, but the bottom line is that we weren't exactly sure how it would actually work. Thankfully, the most important question was answered by director Luke Smith on the Twitch Weekly show today.

Smith addressed the fact that most of us are now at Vault capacity because we had accumulated so many items until the details of the transmog system were revealed, and explained that we need not worry and can start deleting stuff now.

"We don't need to copy it into our inventory. 'Just delete all that shit. We will scrape your account data and what is subject to transmog will be what you collected during your journey. Not what you have now. So if you want to delete a lot of old stuff when you are getting ready for Beyond Light, it is what you had "because you want to look nice." This old Ego Talon IV Warlock helmet is still probably my favorite in the game.

The full clip is below.

Smith is obviously wrong about the best Warlock helmet. But the good news is that I can now wear it all the time, forever, without being confused by the type of equipment.

For those unfamiliar with the concept, transmog in MMOs is the idea of making one piece of equipment look like another, while keeping the original perks, stats, etc. The idea is that players do not have to be forced to wear ugly equipment in order to min max, but instead can express their unique personality through the medium of a precisely chosen piece of armor." Oh yeah, and the one on my arm is the spinal column of an alien wish dragon."

How did you know?

As much as I love playing dress-up with space soldiers, this is the best news I've heard in this cursed year. It's not entirely clear yet when the new Transmog system will be available - as far as I know, it will be after the Beyond Light expansion in November - but it's nice to be able to start dismantling equipment with aplomb.

For those interested, here are some of the rookies that are hot right now. As you can see, I'm a fan of understated but bold color schemes inspired by medieval and horror. Also, check out the latest update on Destiny 2's economy and upcoming changes to the system at This Week at Bungie.
