Remember "Terror from the Deep"? It seems clear that undersea X-COM was the inspiration for "Stirring Abyss," and there's quite a bit of recent, less soggy Firaxis XCOM games in the mix.In "Stirring Abyss," squads of divers traverse the ocean floor, speargunning jellyfish and They shoot and spend action points, hoping that the hit ratio will be in their favor. They can also repair and upgrade damaged submarines and, like the Avenger in "XCOM," pump water to access rooms with various functions.
There is also another inspiration: H. P. Lovecraft's short story "The Temple" describes strange happenings on a U-boat during WWI. Not only to the tentacled underwater menace, but also to the way in which the divers' sanity and oxygen must be managed. [Stirring Abyss is the work of indie studio Sleepy Sentry and is published by Slitherine as part of the K Project. [Stirring Abyss is available on Steam, GOG, and Humble.
