League of Legends' first single-player game, "Ruined King," to be released in early 2021.

Ruined King was announced in December 2019 as the first ever single-player League of Legends game and also the first game to come out from the Riot Forge publishing label. Today Riot announced Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, the game, officially named A League of Legends Story, will be fully released on Steam and the Epic Games Store in early 2021.

The League of Legends spinoff is being developed by Airship Syndicate, which has released such titles as Battle Chasers and Darksiders Genewar: Riot, a mega-hit MOBA League of Legends, and Riot Forge's release will be set in Runeterra and will feature characters from the League, but will be a "complete" game developed by an outside partner studio.

"'Ruined King' is a great way to expand the world of Runeterra to new players as well as avid fans of League of Legends," said Leanne Loombe, head of Riot Forge. "Ruined King will be the first single-player game to bring the world of LoL to both consoles and PC. We are excited to step into the exploration of stories and champions that players have enjoyed over the years and can't wait for players to embark on this new adventure with us."

Ruined King: takes place in two neighborhoods in Luneterra. Bilgewater, a port city populated by monster hunters, dock gangs, and smugglers, and the Shadow Islands, covered in a deadly black fog that corrupts everything it touches. Players will form a party including League of Legends characters Miss Fortune, Ilaoi, Braum, Yasuo, Arli, and Pike to defeat a mysterious common enemy.

As a synopsis, it's pretty thin, but Riot says he'll have more to say about the game in December. Until then, we can dive deeper into the game's underlying lore (and there is a lot of it - this is League of Legends, after all).
