House of Ashes is the next installment of the Dark Pictures anthology.

Horror game anthology The Dark Pictures has revealed its next game, "House of Ashes," by hiding a teaser trailer inside its just-released game "Little Hope." From the looks of it, "House of Ashes" is the story of an American soldier and specialist who uncovers an ancient evil in Afghanistan and will star Ashley Tisdale.House of Ashes is scheduled for release in 2021.

The approximately one-minute "House of Ashes" trailer shows an American helicopter flying over a rugged mountainous region reminiscent of the Hindu Kush in eastern Afghanistan. The trailer opens with a description of an American soldier being attacked by something that "makes you wonder what you're hearing." The narrator describes an ancient underworld where the dead moan and "live in the dust, plagued by demons of the underworld." Then a Greco-Buddhist-style image of a demon is shown for a moment - so it must be Afghanistan. (Well, that and the stereotypical "Islamic" music playing in the background.)

The Dark Pictures anthology is a horror series by Supermassive Games that began in 2019 with "The Man from Medan" and continued this year with "Little Hope". The games are interwoven with a branching narrative in which players make decisions for characters in dialogue and watch as their decisions affect and unfold. It features an innovative co-op horror format where each player controls a character and makes decisions. We called this one of the best new game mechanics in 2019's The Man from Medan.
