Oh My God: "Rust" Looks Gorgeous in Fan-Produced "Modern Warfare 2" Remaster

Remember when "Modern Warfare 2 Remastered" was released earlier this year and did not include multiplayer? One fan group didn't like it so much that they remastered it themselves. After months of work, the development team behind the unofficial remaster recently released an impressive showcase of MW2's most legendary map, Rust.

Ah, the dusty paradise that spawned countless quickscope matchups and some of the best kill streaks of 2009. The remastered version appears to be very faithful to the 2009 original, which is interesting because according to the mod team's official Discord, this version was actually recreated within 2015's Black Ops 3. This means that the mod is not even related to the official Modern Warfare 2 campaign remaster.

Therefore, one wonders how much this mod feels like MW2, as the mod's Q&A states that its goal is to "bring back the golden age of Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer" but that it "is not a remake like Modern Warfare Remastered It's not a remake like Modern Warfare Remastered," it clearly states, "It's not a remake like Modern Warfare Remastered. Only the graphics have been overhauled."

The game's "graphics have been overhauled.

Despite this, one developer stated that everything, from weapons to perks to killstreaks, looks and feels identical to the original game.

But which version of classic MW2 will be recreated? Will we have to deal with that crazy powerful 1887 shotgun that everyone used with Akimbo at launch? The team is cherry-picking the returning elements to find the right balance of nostalgia and fun. That means, thankfully, the 1887 will be a post-nerf version. In the case of the one-man army perk, the mod actually makes an adjustment that was not in the original game, by not refilling explosives when switching classes on the fly.

With at least nine multiplayer maps planned, the mod looks promising. That said, it will be interesting to see how much of the "MW2" atmosphere can be recreated in a game made by a different studio six years later. Unfortunately, it will be a while before we find out; no official release date for the mod has been set yet.

For you, there is an equally gorgeous official remake of "Rust" that you can play right now in Modern Warfare 2019.

Thanks, Charlie INTEL
