Respawn boss Vince Zampella will take over DICE LA and lead the development of the new game.

Electronic Arts founded DICE LA in 2013 on the rubble of Danger Close Games: Warfighter. As IGN reported at the time, DICE LA is an "expansion" of Stockholm-based DICE, "just in a different geographic location," and has so far contributed to a trio of Battlefield games (1, 5, Hardline) and Star Wars Jedi, functioning almost exclusively in that role has also contributed to: Fallen Order.

But that is likely to change in 2020, when the Los Angeles Times reports that Respawn Entertainment co-founder and CEO Vince Zampella will take the helm of the studio, which is expected to begin work on an original under a new name The company is expected to begin work on a new game under a new name.

"We're probably going to change the brand name," Zampella said. We want to give it a new image. We want them to say, 'This is a place where we can create new content. I think they get the branding of DICE Stockholm as a support studio. The rebranding would be to say to people, 'Hey, let's work here. We're going to do great things.'"

Laura Miele, EA's chief studio officer, said she expects the revamped studio to "create and work on its own games" under Zampella's leadership.

"And I truly believe he will help guide them creatively. He will help them further strengthen and build their talent and team," Miele said. I think we're going to see a really strong studio emerge from their Los Angeles base." They can go from a support team to a fully independent studio to deliver new games."

Zampella emphasized that the studio's new direction will be completely separate from DICE and Respawn; whatever his new role at EA DICE, or whatever it is called, he will also remain at the top of Respawn.
