"Mortal Kombat" is currently developing two films. Along with next year's live-action "Mortal Kombat," an animated feature film focusing on everyone's favorite poor undead ninja is in the works. Mortal Kombat Legends: Revenge of Scorpion is scheduled for release in the first half of this year.

Aside from the fact that Scorpion will play the lead role, story details are still a mystery, but as the title suggests, it is likely a retelling of Scorpion's quest to avenge his family and clan. In both the original and the reboot, he is a good guy who initially holds a grudge against Sub-Zero for killing him, but these days he is defending the earth with his clan and befriending even the coldest of opponents.

Patrick Seitz and Steve Blum reprise their roles as Scorpion and Sub-Zero. Seitz has voiced Scorpion since "Mortal Kombat vs DC" and Blum has played Sub-Zero since "Mortal Kombat 10". Johnny Cage is played by Joel McHale in Community. Jennifer Carpenter of "Dexter" will thankfully replace Ronda Rousey as Sonya Blade.

Warner Bros. Animation has done a number of DC movies, most of which are considerably better than the live-action versions. The film is written by Jeremy Adams, writer of "Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans" and directed by Jeremy Adams, writer of "Justice League: Throne of Atlantis," and Ethan Spalding, director of "Throne of Atlantis.

With "Mortal Kombat" co-creator Ed Boon serving as creative consultant, expect this to be a bit more in line with the game than the original "Mortal Kombat" anime: this "Defenders of the Realm" will be a little more in line with the game than the original "Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm" anime.
