Tencent Wants to Acquire "Full Ownership" of Conan Exiles Developer Funcom

Multimedia giant Tencent has announced that it is seeking to acquire Funcom, best known in recent years for its multiplayer survival game Conan Exiles. The studio is currently working on an open-world Dune game.

Funcom is already partially owned by Tencent, which currently owns approximately 29% of the company's stock. According to a statement released by the studio, Funcom CEO Rui Casais has expressed enthusiasm for Tencent's intention to initiate a full-scale acquisition.

"We have had a great relationship with Tencent as the largest shareholder and are excited about this opportunity." We continue to develop great games that people around the world will play, and we believe Tencent's support will take Funcom to the next level."

He stated.

Tencent not only owns a stake in Funcom, but also part of various giant game studios, including Riot Games, Epic, and Ubisoft. Tencent intends to make an offer in February and has announced that even in the event of a full acquisition, there will be no changes in staff or management, and currently supported games will be maintained for the foreseeable future.

"We are impressed with Funcom's strengths as a developer of open world multiplayer, action and survival games. We look forward to deepening our relationship with Funcom and working together to deliver exciting and entertaining gaming experiences for fans around the world."

According to Casais, if Tencent were to acquire the company, it would "provide Funcom with the management leverage and insight that comes from its extensive knowledge as a leading company in the gaming field." The publisher has already announced plans to expand the scope of Dune, which is expected to undergo some changes if the acquisition goes through.
