Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition Beta Coming Soon

"Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition" is the last of Microsoft's "Age of Empires" remasters, and now that the second game is over, it is being eyed as the next installment. So far, we haven't heard much information about the game, but starting in February, Microsoft will be inviting people to participate in a beta version of the game.

If you want to get an early look, you will need to join the Insider program. If you are already a member, make sure your details are up to date and that you have uploaded your DXDiag. This does not guarantee that you will be able to participate in the first beta, but several betas will be held, each focusing on a different part of the game.

Make sure your PC meets the following system requirements:

Starting in early February, the multiplayer will be tested. The multiplayer beta will be the largest, but we want fans of the original version to play it first - this is our goal for the next month, and it will be open to more players in March.

Campaigns will also be available, but these will be limited to small chunks. Campaign beta sessions will be limited to small groups and specific missions, so you may have better luck in multiplayer.

I didn't get into 3 as much as I did the last one, but that makes my feelings about this remastering a little stronger. Maybe I'll get into it this time. I'm also curious to see if there are a lot of obvious new elements. I felt that Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition was an improvement over its predecessor, not just because it was based on a superior game, but because the team added a whole new civilization and campaign.

Cheers, PCGamesN.
