The Raspberry Pi is a micro-PC that can be used for just about anything. The price of this kit is somewhat comparable to buying all the components individually, but it is nice to start with everything you need. The active cooling is especially nice and allows you to push the Raspberry Pi to its limits for extended periods of time without the device throttling due to heat (prolonged gaming, overclocking, etc.).
