Ever since "Halo: Reach" landed on PCs in a drop pod in December, I've been craving a certain missing feature. As a teenager, I spent hours in this mode, piecing together ridiculously dangerous gauntlets, watching from afar as my friends ran through, arms outstretched and laughing darkly. I was definitely the jigsaw killer of the Halo clan. There must have been one in every group.
When 343 Industries gets Forge mode ready for "Halo Reach" and other games yet to be released as part of "Halo: The Master Chief Collection," I plan on taking on that role again. When that will be is still unclear, but 343 is at least making progress on that in their latest development update.
It says that "significant progress" has been made in fixing bugs and designing both Forge and Theater modes in a way that works for "Halo: Reach." The next update is to implement PC-specific features that will work with all versions of Forge and Theater in other "Halo" games.
They are as listed in 343:
While testing mouse and keyboard controls on the PC, the developers created a brief scene in Forge mode in "Halo: Reach" and then released the first screenshots of the Forge level on PC The first screenshots were released on the PC.
343 noted that the scene in the screenshot uses legacy gadgets; when Forge comes to PC, the budget will be expanded, allowing for more objects to be placed on a single level than ever before. No one is ready for the number of gravity lifts I am planning that will be aimed directly at kill balls.
What 343 is not yet ready to talk about is how we will implement custom map and game variant sharing (Xbox One and PC) across platforms. Specifically, they are not ready to reveal the PC implementation of this feature.
In another part of the development update, 343 stated that they are making good progress on the Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary beta and are preparing for a PC test scheduled for February.
If you can't wait that long, the Halo: CE: Anniversary Event January 29-February 5 will feature a rotating 4vs4 social playlist, emulating the setting of Halo: Combat Evolved, classic variation of the Anniversary map.
