Taipei Game Show postponed due to coronavirus emergency.

The 2020 Taipei Game Show, which was scheduled to take place from February 6-9 (where From Software's upcoming "Elden Ring" was to finally be unveiled), has been postponed until summer due to the ongoing Wuhan coronavirus outbreak.

"The Taipei Game Show is one of the most iconic networking events of the year. In light of this, W.H.O. has declared a global emergency due to the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak," organizers said in an emergency announcement.

"Considering that a large gathering like the Taipei Game Show increases the possibility of mass infection, the organizing committee has decided to stay away from such an unimaginable risk. We ask all exhibitors for their understanding of this major decision."

The day before the show, organizers had announced the implementation of "a series of quarantine measures in accordance with guidelines provided by the Taiwan Center for Disease Control," but decided to cancel the show entirely after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Wuhan coronavirus a "public health emergency of international concern" WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said when the declaration was issued that the measure was due to "what is happening not in China, but in other countries, especially those without good health systems."

Taiwan is not a member of the WHO, and its participation in related activities has been blocked by China, which already considers Taiwan a province of China represented by Beijing; the WHO and other international organizations do not recognize Taiwan's independence; the WHO has not yet recognized Taiwan's independence; and Taiwan is not a member of the WHO.

The Taipei Game Show does not have the name recognition of events like the Tokyo Game Show or gamescom, but it attracts significant attention: 320,000 people attended the 2019 event, compared to Gamescom's 373,000 and TG3's 262,000. One of the things we were looking forward to at this year's event was the first public showing of "The Elden Ring," the new game From Software is developing with George R.R. Martin. At one point, the release date for "The Elden Ring" was listed as June 30, 2020, which could have been earlier than the Taipei show, but it is now listed as December 31, which is almost certainly a placeholder date.
