Pandemic to end free distribution at Epic Games Store next week

Last week, Asmodee Digital announced that three of its digital board games ("Ticket to Ride," "Carcassonne," and "Pandemic") will hit the Epic Games Store on February 20, beginning February 6 and running through February 13, In keeping with Epic's distribution habits, all three of these games will be available for free download.

However, this is no longer the case for Pandemic. In a statement, Epic Games confirmed that Pandemic will no longer be free during that period." We have changed the release of Pandemic as a free game in our store schedule to a later date." "Ticket to Ride" and "Carcassonne" will remain available as free games of the week from February 6 through February 13.

Meanwhile, the Pandemic game pages on the Epic Games Store have been removed or are down, but the Ticket to Ride and Carcassonne pages remain intact; Pandemic remains available for purchase on Steam.

The reason for Pandemic's non-participation has not been disclosed, but it is easy to speculate that the hypersensitivity caused by the coronavirus emergency is to blame. According to Al Jazeera, the current death toll is 425. There have been a number of game-related cancellations, including the Taipei Game Show and games of the China-based Overwatch League.

And while it may not be obvious from the title, Pandemic is a game in which "four deadly diseases spread across the globe," and it is the player's job to stop them.
