Yesterday we mentioned that a gaming laptop with an RTX 2060 graphics card was marked down to $1,100 at Walmart (still available). This time it's MSI's mid-range laptop with a GTX 1660 Ti GPU. The laptop is priced at $899, a $200 drop from the original MSRP, but with a $100 postal rebate, bringing the total cost down to $799.

The model being sold has great specifications for a sub-$1,000 laptop. The processor is an Intel Core i7-9750H, a 6-core/12-thread CPU with a boost clock up to 4.50 GHz; it also has 8GB of RAM, a 256GB NVMe SSD, and a 17.3-inch 1008p display. A larger SSD would be nice, but at least this laptop doesn't use the dreaded ultra-small SSD and large HDD combination.

MSI uses an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics card in this laptop, and most games run fine at native 1080p resolution. However, since it is not an RTX card, you will not get fancy ray-tracing graphics effects. For an idea of what kind of performance you can expect, see our review of the GTX 1660 Ti, but keep in mind that laptop cards are a bit slower because they have to deal with the thermal constraints that come from a narrow laptop chassis.

Connectivity is another high point for the MSI GL73, with one USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port, three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A connectors, a Mini DisplayPort, an HDMI connector supporting 4K at 60Hz, an SD card reader, Ethernet, separate headphone and microphone jacks. There is also a 720p webcam above the screen.

Since MSI makes dozens of variations of this laptop, there do not seem to be many expert reviews of this particular model, but this particular variant has a 4/5 rating on Newegg out of 83 customer reviews.
