Resident Evil 7" sold 7 million units, and "DMC5" was the best-selling title in the series.

Capcom has released its latest sales figures for its best-selling games, with Monster Hunter and Resident Evil dominating the top 10 charts.

The big news from Capcom's latest update, which includes sales through December 31, 2019, is that Resident Evil 7 has surpassed 7 million units, keeping it in third place in the series behind RE6 (7.4 million) and RE5 (7.6 million). The sales were considered disappointing at launch, selling only a little over half of RE5 and RE6 in six months, so it must be a moment of relief for Capcom that the game has picked up pace in the years since its launch in 2017.

Meanwhile, Resident Evil 2 finally overtook Resident Evil 2. The excellent remake, released last year, has sold 5.8 million copies, nearly 1 million ahead of the 4.96 million copies of the original PlayStation game that ranks below it. Since Capcom last updated its list of sales figures through September 30, 2019, the remake has garnered more than 1 million additional sales.

Monster Hunter remains an absolute blockbuster. The original "Monster Hunter: World" sold a whopping 14.9 million copies, making it the best-selling game in Capcom history. This is twice as many as the next best-selling game, "Resident Evil 5," which sold 7.6 million units. Monster Hunter Freedom 3rd" (4.9), "Monster Hunter Generations" (4.3), and "Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate" (4.2) occupy the 8th, 9th, and 10th places.

"Iceborn," the expansion for "Monster Hunter: World," was released on PC in January, so sales for this platform are not included here. Despite this, it has managed to generate a respectable 3.2 million sales on consoles since its launch in September 2019.

Devil May Cry 5 is also officially the best-selling game in the series with 3.1 million units, surpassing Devil May Cry 3 and 4. By no means is it Capcom's best-selling series, but the fact that the latest installment is doing well both critically and commercially means that Dante will be back soon, right?

The only major black star in Capcom's renaissance right now is the fighting game division. Street Fighter 5's sales of 4.1 million units are only surpassed by Street Fighter 2 Turbo, which was released on the SNES. Combined with each edition of "Street Fighter 4," "Street Fighter 4" also continues to outsell its successor. Still, "Street Fighter 5" is in the top 15; "Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite" is in 60th place with 1.4 million units.

In summary, the top 10 best-selling Capcom games today are:

1) Monster Hunter: 14.9 million units 2) Resident Evil 5 (PS3/360 version): 7.6 million units 3) Resident Evil 6 (PS3/360 version): 7.4 million 7.4 million 4) "Resident Evil 7": 7 million 5) Street Fighter 2 (SNES version): 6.3 million 6) Resident Evil 2 Remake: 5.8 million 7) Resident Evil 2 (PS1): 4.96 million 8) Monster Hunter Freedom 3rd (PSP): 4.9 million 9) Monster Hunter Generations (3DS): 4.3 million 10) Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (3DS): 4.2 million

Aside from the fighting games, publishers seem to be back in full force. Monster Hunter: World, Resident Evil: 2, Resident Evil: 7, Devil May Cry 5, and Resident Evil: 3. [at least until the new "Bionic Commando" game comes out. Capcom, please.
