Corsair upgrades 17-button Scimitar mouse, available for $80

A few weeks ago, Corsair announced the Scimitar RGB Elite, an upgraded version of the 17-button Scimitar RGB Pro. The two rodents look identical, but the Elite is lighter and more nimble. It is also available now for $79.99.

The mouse has more buttons than I have fingers, more than three times the number of fingers that adorn my right hand (the mouse is ergonomically designed for right-handed users). Most of them are thumb buttons, 12 of them on the left side of the Scimitar RGB Elite, the two main clickers at the top, the scroll wheel, and the two buttons just below it.

When it comes to MOBA and MMO gaming, the best gaming mouse for the job will have a lot of disposable buttons; Razer's Naga Trinity is similarly built. However, the Scimitar RGB Elite is more sensitive than both the Naga Trinity and the Scimitar RGB Pro. While both have a maximum of 16,000 DPI, the Scimitar RGB Elite has a new PixArt PMW3391 sensor that delivers up to 18,000 DPI and 400 inches per second.

Many will consider this a boast and settle for a lower DPI setting. Regardless, it is technically superior on paper.

Like the Pro model, the new Elite version works with Corsair's iCUE utility. This allows users to customize various settings, including four RGB lighting zones, and run surface calibration routines.

Corsair states that the Scimitar RGB Elite weighs 122g (not including cables). This is lighter than the Scimitar RGB Pro's 147g.

The Scimitar RGB Elite is currently available directly from Amazon and Corsair. Meanwhile, the Scimitar RGB Pro has been reduced to $64.89 on Amazon.

In addition to the upgraded mouse, Corsair also announced the new MM500 3XL extended mouse pad. Measuring 1220x610mm in both length and width, Corsair also claims that the "precision stitching" design on the edges of the mousepad prevents the edges from fraying.

The MM500 3XL Anti-Fray is also available now, priced at $49.99.
