Quantic Dream Opens Door to PC Release with Move to Self-Publishing

French game studio Quantic Dream has been known primarily as a PlayStation studio. Although not part of Sony, three of its previous releases - "Heavy Rain", "Beyond: Two Souls", "Detroit: Beyond: Two Souls" and "Detroit: Become Human" - were published by Sony and until very recently were PlayStation-exclusive software. However, according to Quantic Dream, that will change in the future, as the company is now in a position to publish them in-house.

"The past two years have been exceptional: the success of Detroit: Become Human, the growth of our fantastic global community, and the launch of the PC version of the game. Detroit: Quantic Dream co-CEOs David Cage and Guillaume de Fondaumière, co-CEOs of Detroit: Quantic Dream, said, "Thanks to Detroit: Become Human, we have been able to realize a vision that has been dear to us since the beginning of Quantic Dream. And for the first time in our 23 years of working with top-tier publishers, we are now in a position to self-publish."

The move to self-publishing, they write, will allow Quantic Dream to make decisions with "complete independence" and also to invest in and support the development of other studios." We want to support the creators of original projects and help them achieve their vision and deliver quality, groundbreaking experiences."

For PC gamers, the change is expected to eliminate long waits to play Quantic Dream games. While the studio's first two games, "The Nomad Soul" and "Fahrenheit," were released immediately (in fact, "The Nomad Soul" was released only on PC and Dreamcast), it was not until Sony got involved until last summer, or in the case of "Heavy Rain" release had ceased until nearly a full decade after its initial release.
