PC test flight for Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary begins.

The first test flights for the PC version of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary have begun, allowing a lucky select few to try out the majority of the game for a limited time.

Little by little, the Master Chief Collection is making its way to PC. First it was Halo Reach on December 3, 2019, and now it's the turn of Combat Evolved Anniversary. Combat Evolved Anniversary is an HD remake of the first game, which was released on Xbox 360 in 2011, before being included in the Master Chief Collection.

If you've already signed up for the Halo Insider Program, you may have received an email saying you've been granted access to a test flight: four campaign missions, multiplayer matchmaking including a custom game mode, and some of the customization options included in the full version. You can be among the first to see some of the customization options included in the full version.

If you have not yet signed up for the Insider Program, there is little hope of participating in this phase of testing. However, given that there will be further testing after this and the release of the four Master Chief Collection games (2 Anniversary, 3, ODST, and 4), there is a good chance that you will eventually be able to play some of the early Halo games.

It should be noted that Halo: Combat Evolved already has PC and Mac versions. These were released in 2003, long before the anniversary remake, and are not available on digital distribution platforms. But if you can get your hands on a used copy, it remains an excellent FPS that you don't have to wait for. No matter how HD, "Halo" is good.

Like Halo Reach, it is almost certain that Combat Evolved will be included in the Xbox Games Pass for PC or purchased separately on Steam. While the release date for Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is currently undetermined, 343 Industries has stated that it hopes to release the entire "Master Chief Collection" on PC by the end of 2020.
