The new Half Life: Alyx screenshot shows a very familiar error message.

If you have played games made with the Source Engine, such as Half-Life 2, Portal, or Left 4 Dead, or if you have played with Garry's Mod, especially with player-made Source Engine game mods and maps If you have, you are probably very familiar with Source Engine's error models. This is a large, bright red 3D model with the word ERROR indicating that the model did not load correctly. The image above is placed on Garry's Mod construct map.

When an error model appears on a mod or map, it is quite difficult to miss. However, it seems that even Valve itself, which is about to release a new Half-Life game, may fall victim to the infamous Source Engine error model. Just yesterday, Valve announced the release date for Half-Life: Alyx, and Twitter released a beautiful new set of screenshots to accompany the announcement. Here's one of them:

Lovely! However, if you zoom in on the image and look at the upper left corner, you can see Source Engine's error model stuck in the frame. At a quick glance, you might think it looks like a building sign, but it is not. It is a good old error model. Hello, old friend.

Being a Half-Life game, only the bottom half of the error model is visible. But it's there! 7]

Valve's Brad Kinley confirmed on Twitter that the error was indeed an error, noting, "At least we know they're not bullshitting!"

He pointed out that the error was not a "real" error, but rather a "real" error.

Fortunately, there is still time for Valve to get all the models to load correctly: Alyx will appear on March 23.

Thanks, UploadVR.
