Nvidia Says Activision's GeForce Now Leave Was Caused by "Misunderstanding"

Nvidia's GeForce Now game streaming service is off to a strong start, but suffered an unexpected headache earlier this week when Activision Blizzard removed its games from the platform.Call of Duty: Modern Warfare," "Overwatch," "Diablo 3," and other blockbusters were suddenly unavailable; Nvidia simply stated, "At their request, we inform you that Activision Blizzard games are being removed from the service."

As it turns out, this was all a "misunderstanding"; an Nvidia representative told Bloomberg that Activision wanted to sign a commercial agreement before agreeing to join the platform, but Nvidia had been working with GeForce Now believed that the agreement covering participation in beta testing would include a 90-day trial period for "founders" that would begin when the service was launched.

Apparently, this was not the case.

"Activision Blizzard has been a great partner during the GeForce Now beta period and we took it to include a free trial period for Founder Membership," Nvidia said.

"Recognizing the misunderstanding, we have removed their game from our service.

A sticking point for Activision-Blizzard may be the fact that they do not need to purchase games on GeForce Now if they already own the games on other supported stores. The circumstances in which one would want to do this may be quite unique. Maybe you don't feel like re-downloading a few gigabytes of a game when you have the urge to fiddle with it in the short term, but even so, Activision may be reluctant to relinquish control of the game in such a way unless there is some formal agreement to do so There may not be.

Hopefully, such an agreement will be reached soon and Activision-Blizzard games will soon return to GeForce Now. we have contacted Nvidia for more information and will update if we hear back.
