Metro Exodus Performs "Strong" on Steam Despite Release Delay

Metro Exodus caused a bit of a stir when Deep Silver decided to pull it from Steam, deciding to release it exclusively on the Epic Games Store instead. This meant that Steam players had to wait a whole year before they could play it on their platform of choice. Some players were not happy about this and used user reviews to criticize the exclusivity.

Many prospective players seemed to sit back and wait for the exclusivity deal to expire. Embracer Group, Deep Silver's parent company, released its Q3 earnings report mentioning Metro Exodus' sales on Steam.

"We've already sold about 200,000 units and we're pleased that it's doing well. It was amazing to see one of our largest countries, Asia, buying our product," Lars Wingefors, CEO of Embracer, said of the Steam launch of "Metro Exodus."

The Asian powerhouse Wingefors refers to is almost certainly China. As many other developers have found China to be one of the largest markets for Steam games, it is not surprising that Chinese players have been buying the game in droves. As Steven Messner reported last year, Chinese players are a major contributor to Steam game sales, and their contribution has only grown since then.
