General
Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Faeria are now available for free on the Epic Games Store.

The Epic Games Store is also running a double giveaway today for Faeria, a digital card game played on a "living board," and Assassin's Creed Syndicate, a brother-sister murder sim.

It's clear that Syndicate is this week's big name: Victorian-era London is a "dazzling setting," but the game itself "does little to evolve the formula or differentiate itself from other games, with oddly forgettable results." Nevertheless, it is a complete Assassin's Creed game, far from the worst of the bunch, and it is free.

Faeria may be the more interesting game in this week's set, at least in terms of being a bit different. We have not reviewed this game, but Jody was quite taken with it in our 2017 preview, noting that its "living board makes it stand out from the card game crowd." Also, at launch on the Epic Games Store, the game will receive a new feature and upgrade titled Epic Update, which includes a new PvP map rotation, in-game leaderboards, new animated intros, user reports, UI improvements, controller support, and more! A fairly extensive update was made, including upgrades.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Faeria are currently free and will remain free until February 27 at 11 a.m. JST. They will be replaced next week by InnerSpace, a lovely fantasy flight sim set in the inside-out world of Inverse.
