The Witcher 3" has generated $50 million on Steam.

Revenue from sales of The Witcher 3 on Steam has exceeded $50 million since October 1, 2018; CD Projekt Red announced the statistic in a tweet, explaining that as a result of the open-world RPG's success, the company now gets 80 percent of subsequent sales.

Most developers get 70 percent of the sales, with the rest going to Valve, but that changes as the game's revenue increases: if the game sells $10 million, the share increases to 75 percent, and if it hits $50 million, it increases another 5 percent.

Just last week, it was reported that Witcher 3 sales increased 554 percent in December, the same month that the Witcher Netflix show was released. Also at the end of January, the number of concurrent players on Steam surpassed 100,000 for the first time.

With all the buzz about the show, it is no surprise that this has affected the epic fantasy RPG's sales revenue. Netflix decided to air a second season of the show before the first season even hit the screens.
