While Intel is yet to announce its Comet Lake-S series of desktop CPUs, Gigabyte will include Comet Lake-U hardware in its Brix series of mini-PCs.

Comet Lake represents the fourth iteration of Intel's 14-nanometer node, a far cry from the 10nm refresh, but that's another article; related to Comet Lake, mobile parts are already available, and Comet Lake-U is a 15W low-power CPU.

This makes it a candidate for thin and light notebooks and mini-PCs. Gigabyte's Brix family is similar to Intel's NUC lineup, a small box that takes up little space. They can even be mounted on the back of a monitor to create an all-in-one system.

As spotted by Twitter user @momo_us, Gigabyte has refreshed several of its Brix models with Comet Lake-U hardware: Core i7-10710U, Core i7-10510U, and Core i5-10210U, Core i3-10110U models, each of which is compatible with Comet Lake-U CPUs.

Each of Brix's four models supports up to 64 GB of DDR4-2666 memory via two SO-DIMM slots. They also feature a 2.5" storage bay (SATA 6Gbps), Wi-Fi 5 connectivity, and a variety of ports. In particular, the front I/O features four USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports (three Type-A, one Type-C) and a headphone/microphone combo jack. On the back are two additional USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, two HDMI 2.0 outputs, and a GbE LAN port.

Processors are the main selling point here; the specs for the four CPUs are as follows:

None of these systems are gaming PCs per se, as they do not feature discrete graphics. However, with services like Google Stadia and GeForce Now making strides in the cloud gaming arena, integrated graphics are sufficient.

Therefore, GeForce Now requires a dual-core CPU of at least 2 GHz, 4 GB of RAM, DirectX 11 graphics, and an Internet connection of at least 15 Mbps. Similarly, the requirements for Stadia on a PC are similarly soft.

Gigabyte has not disclosed when the refreshed Brix PCs will be available for purchase or pricing.
