Electronic Arts reportedly canceled its "Star Wars Battlefront" spinoff last year.

In 2017, Electronic Arts pulled out of Visceral Games, which was working on a new Star Wars game codenamed "Ragtag" under the direction of Amy Hennig. Elements of this project were used by EA Vancouver as the basis for another Star Wars game codenamed "Orca," which also closed in early 2019.

According to a new report from Kotaku, that wasn't all: it seems that EA also halted development of a third Star Wars game last year, which was to be produced as a spin-off of the Star Wars Battlefront shooter series. Codenamed "Viking," it was reportedly slated for release this fall, but was similarly canceled when it became clear that it would not meet that release date.

The axe actually fell in the first half of 2019, according to a Kotaku report, detailing how difficult coordination between EA Vancouver and London-based Criterion Games had hampered the project. Criterion is now back to handling the Need for Speed series.

Electronic Arts was given an exclusive license to develop Star Wars games in 2013, but it has not been the coup that many had hoped for. In addition to the Ragtag/Orca/Viking headache, the "Star Wars Battlefront" comeback was derailed by the loot box fiasco that "Battlefront 2" sparked. So far, the only resounding success to come out of the deal is "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order."

Hopefully better days are ahead for Star Wars fans: according to the report, EA is working on two new Star Wars games, with a sequel to "Fallen Order" at Respawn and a "smaller, more unusual" game at EA Motive

The report states that two new Star Wars games are in the works at EA.
