Get one of the fastest consumer SSDs on the market for $200

There is a great deal for those who are building 3rd generation Ryzen PCs around X570 motherboards and want to take full advantage of PCI Express 4.0 support. Seagate's Firecuda 520 is one of the few PCIe 4.0-enabled SSDs that offers very fast read/write speeds. These drives are not cheap, but if you want one of the fastest SSDs on the market, the 1TB model is available now on Amazon for $199.99.

This is $50 less than the list price. The list price has gone up to nearly $230 in recent weeks, but this sale is still a bit of a bargain. Of course, even at $200, this is not a cheap SSD, but you can't touch the speed of this SSD, which delivers up to 5,000 MB/s sequential read performance and 4,400 MB/s sequential write performance in the PCIe 3.0 model.

There are a few things to note. To take full advantage of the speed of this drive, a PCIe 4.0 platform is required. Currently, only AMD's X570 chipset supports PCIe 4.0 in the consumer space. While this drive can be used with Intel systems and earlier AMD chipsets, it cannot extract 5,000 MB/s read and 4,400 MB/s write.

Second, even with such an increase in speed, there is not much benefit for gaming. Even relatively slow SATA-based SSDs are fine for gaming and general use (see our summary of the best SSDs for gaming). So why did we cover this deal?

Well, if you're building (or planning to build) a PCIe 4.0 setup and want to spend money on fast storage, this SSD is the fastest, at least until the next round of PCIe 4.0 models comes out (several have already been announced). And while it won't load games any faster than a PCIe 3.0 SSD, the added speed could be a boon, especially if you move large numbers of files or perform storage-intensive tasks, compared to a SATA-based SSD.
